About Sirona Technologies
At Sirona Technologies, we are developing direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO2 from the air and combat climate change. As a startup in the R&D phase, we’re rapidly scaling our laboratory prototype into larger, game-changing machines to be produced in large series.
We are looking for an exceptional and mission-driven machine designer to support the development and scaling of our direct air capture machine. As a member of the core team, you will be expected to rapidly grow your responsibilities to meet our ambitious goals.
Responsibilities
As a machine designer, you will have to:
- Oversee the integration of subsystems within the machine by closely collaborating with the R&D team.
- Create technical drawings and 3D models of machine components, ensuring they are manufacturable and optimized for series production by applying Design for Manufacturing principles.
- Propose continuous improvements as we scale up our manufacturing batches.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, research, and production teams to ensure design alignment and seamless project execution.
- Introduce and address prototyping and manufacturing constraints to streamline production processes and ensure product scalability.
- Support the manufacturing, assembly, and validation of products, ensuring they meet performance and quality benchmarks.
- Ensure that the product complies and gets certified for the operation site norms.
- Participate in building, testing and troubleshooting of products, analyzing results, and implementing design improvements to simplify its manufacturing, and to enhance its reliability and performance.
Requirements
- A background in mechanical, mechatronics, or electro-mechanical engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Proven - at least 5 years - experience in transitioning prototypes to scalable, mass-producible machines, with a strong focus on design for manufacturing (DfM) and assembly (DfA).
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, and injection molding, including material selection for scalability.
- Experience implementing quality control processes, tolerancing (GD&T), and ensuring compliance with relevant certifications and standards (e.g., ISO, CE, UL).
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Creative, curious. Smart but humble, with a bias for action
