About Sirona Technologies

At Sirona Technologies, we are developing direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO2 from the air and combat climate change. We are a young startup and are now scaling up our prototypes into industrial machines ready for mass production.

We are looking for an exceptional and mission-driven mechanical engineer to support the solid mechanics and thermal engineering designs of our machine. As a member of the core team, you will be expected to rapidly grow your responsibilities in order to help fulfill our ambitious goals.

Responsibilities

As a mechanical engineer, you will:

  • Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical structures and systems of our machines.
  • Apply principles of solid mechanics to optimize components and overall structural integrity.
  • Apply principles of thermodynamics to optimize the flows and energy of the DAC process.
  • Work with system engineers, sharing insights based on simulations of the flows and energy of the DAC process, proposing and quantifying design improvements.
  • Work with machine designers to optimize mechanical designs with a focus on manufacturability, simplicity, and low capex.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and develop thermal models to predict and analyze the behavior of materials and components under various conditions.
  • Participate in the development and testing of prototypes, and use results to inform and refine designs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that arise during the development, testing, or manufacturing stages.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in mechanical engineering, materials science, and related fields to continually improve DAC system designs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a strong background in solid mechanics or thermal engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Knowledge of material selection, stress analysis, heat transfer.
  • Experience in designing and analyzing mechanical systems and components.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Smart but humble, with a bias for action.
Nice to haves
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations relevant to mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and testing.
Location
  • Brussels, Belgium
